Working on Designs 20/01/11
Today, we started off by doing some research on the sort of people who would use the cafe, and surveyed people on Burleigh Street, to find out what they were doing there (shopping, eating) and where they were going. Whilst Liam and Harry went out to do the survey, I worked on a possible logo design to use on our flyers.
We also discussed what we would put on our flyers, and I thought it would make sense to promote the different menus and specials at different times of day, so there would be variety and make it more noticeable. I was also working on a test poster, promoting the daily specials, whilst Harry worked on the logo for it.

The Briefing 13/01/11
Today we were given the briefing on what work we would have to do for the Orange Tree Cafe. We went over to the cafe to have a look around, and get our first impressions of it, so we would have an idea about what sort of advertising campaign we need to make. Once again I'm working with Liam and Harry, and we're thinking of making our campaign as some flyers, that can vary according to the time of day, because the type of customer at the cafe also varies depending on the time of day.

Macro Photography and Techniques 06/01/11
Today, we were examining the use of photography techniques to photograph objects close-up, including getting some interesting angles. We had to use the macro setting on the camera for some photos, so that we could achieve better focus. Here are some of the photos I took today:
This photo is of a laptop keyboard, and I was trying to focus on just a few letters, leaving the rest a bit blurred, and I quite like the end result.
And I've tried to do the opposite here, focussing on the background, with an out-of-focus object in the foreground. Again, I'm pleased with the results from this photograph, as there is a good contrast between the paper and the laptop.
I'm pleased with these results, and at the moment I'm writing descriptions for the other photos, they will be added to this post in due course.
The First Session on Campaigns, 16/12/10
Today, we were learning about campaigns. Campaigns are used for various reasons, including advertising, stating a point-of-view, and raising awareness. The first thing we had to do was look in the Yellow Pages, and find a 24-hour emergency plumbing service, in the local area, as quickly as possible. I found out that the ones that I saw first had bold text stating the necessary details, such as it being a 24-hour service. We also had some practice taking photographs of photography equipment, and had to make short presentations about selling them. I decided that it would be more professional to use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen, as it allowed me to focus more on the shot. I also found that focussing on the subject close-up could lead to loss of focus.
